Unit #3.Lesson #3.Graphs of Functions

In this lesson, we look at how to translate equations of functions into their graphs by producing input/output tables. We do not yet use graphing calculator technology in this lesson, but it is coming soon. And, for the first time, we introduce the very trick concept of a piecewise defined function. Although this may seem early, we use them on and off for the rest of the course, so the early exposure is just the beginning.

  1. I was wondering how your kids handled the piecewise functions? I anticipate my kids feeling lost. I do really like how you introduce it over several days. The other parts of the lesson seem like my kids will have no trouble.

    Kids did have a pretty tough time with the piecewise. That’s why I like to revisit it over time. I still question why we should have it at this level, but not our call.


  3. I thought it was a great idea to spread it out over several lessons. It was very helpful in teaching my students. They did surprisingly well at it.
