Middle School Teacher Tools

This month, the Teacher Tools for N-Gen Math 6, Math 7, and Math 8 focus on key geometry concepts. Use these add-ons to assess students’ understanding of geometry concepts and their ability to apply formulas accurately.

N-Gen Math 6:

  • Unit 9 (Trapezoids and their Areas) – Practice
A new practice set for Unit 9 covers Trapezoids, teaching students to identify parallel sides, calculate areas by decomposing shapes into rectangles and triangles. Students will also learn to identify the coordinates of vertices and calculate the area of a trapezoid when plotted on a coordinate plane.
  • Unit 10 (Solids) – Assessment – Form C
The assessment includes questions about identifying the number of faces in pyramids and prisms, the shape of lateral faces, calculating volume, and determining surface area. There are also questions involving nets of solids and finding the volume of composite solids. Students are tested on their mathematical understanding through both multiple-choice questions and free-response questions.

N-Gen Math 7:

  • Unit 9 (The Geometry of Angles and Triangles) – Assessment – Form C
This assessment focuses on the geometry of angles and triangles. Multiple choice questions cover topics such as types of angles, identifying line segments, and solving for a variable in a right angle problems. Likewise, the assessment also includes free-response questions that require showing work and include tasks such as drawing line segments, lines, and rays, and determining if points are collinear.
  • Unit 9 (Angles and Algebra) – Practice
This practice set includes questions involving angles on a line, angles formed by intersecting rays and lines, and solving for unknown values (represented by ‘x’) using given angle measurements. The problems require setting up and solving algebraic equations based on the relationships between the angles in the provided diagrams.

N-Gen Math 8:

  • Unit 8 (The Pythagorean Theorem) – Assessment – Form C
This assessment form includes multiple-choice questions testing knowledge of the theorem and its applications, along with free-response questions requiring detailed work to solve problems related to finding side lengths, distances, and perimeters. Cover concepts such as right triangles, isosceles triangles, coordinate grids, and real-world scenarios involving the Pythagorean Theorem.
  • Unit 8 (Applying the Pythagorean Theorem) – Practice
This practice worksheet includes problems involving finding the height of isosceles triangles and a trapezoid, as well as word problems about distances, such as the distance between corners of a basketball court, the path of a pizza delivery driver, and the length of kite string.
  • Unit 9 (Volume and Surface Area of Solids) – Assessment – Form C
This test for 8th-grade math students covers prisms, cylinders, cones, and spheres. Use this summative assessment to evaluate students’ understanding of geometric measurement concepts and their ability to apply formulas and problem-solving skills. It also provides opportunities for students to demonstrate their ability to work with units of measurement, round appropriately, and solve real-world application problems.
  • Unit 9 (Circumference of Area of Circles) – Practice
Provide students with practice calculating the circumference and area of circles with varying radii, ensuring they round answers to the nearest tenth. The worksheet also includes problems that require students to compare the perimeter of squares to the circumference of circles, as well as calculate the area of shaded regions within geometric figures.

March’s Bonus Activity: St. Patrick’s Day Statistics Worksheet

For this month’s themed fun, we bring a St.Patrick’s Day-themed activity to let middle and high school students sharpen their data analysis skills by calculating how much gold a junior leprechaun would make in a year!

Students will calculate mean, mode, median, range, and analyze real-world scenarios. This activity can be done individually or in small groups, encouraging students to think critically about probability and expectations. It’s a fun, interactive way to reinforce math concepts while adding a festive touch. Perfect for middle and high school classrooms, this hands-on activity makes probability engaging, relevant, and enjoyable!

An answer key is included for easy grading and support.
